The Alleys In Siena

“Even more so – than its door – Siena opens up its heart to you”.

This is how one of the doors of the city of Siena welcomes you. And if a city welcomes you like this, that says a lot about its history and the spirit you feel there. There are places and people, dishes or paintings, clothes or books that you know you like after a single look. It is a matter of instinct, as first impressions are often the right ones.

And with Siena, it was love at first sight. This may be because of its streets, because of its Gothic style, which fascinates me so; because of its cuisine, or maybe because of the manner in which its people speak, which is instantly likeable, even if you are the most “foolish” person I’ve ever known.
How can you not love the majestic and elegant Cathedral of Siena, that was made in the Gothic style, with black and white strips of marble, or the Public Palace, which also has a Gothic style and has a tower ( the “Torre del Mangia”), which is the second tallest tower in Italy.
How can you not be enchanted by observing the “Piazza del Campo” with its slight bend, and which is divided in nine segments that symbolize the “Consiglio dei Nove” (Council Of Nine) which governed the city in medieval times?
How can you not want to lose yourself in the tiny streets of Siena, amongst its buildings, which tell countless stories? It is amongst these tiny streets that I decided to take my pictures.
How can you not adore caramelized sheep cheese with red wine, that you eat in the “Osteria del Gusto”: a restaurant that is run by delightful people who prepare dishes that are just as special?
