Superga: I like thinking they were invented by a woman

The history of Superga dates back to 1911. Walter Martini founded his company in Turin, next to the Basilica of Superga. The company specialised in the production of vulcanised rubber.

The first important creation for the company from Turin was its rubber boots. But its real success came in 1925, when Martiny launched model 2750 that every body knows as “le Superga” nowadays.

Martiny was married to a woman who was passionate about tennis when he invented model 2750. I like to think that it was her idea to create those shoes. I like to imagine Mrs Martiny talking to her husband before a succulent dinner and convincing him that it would be a winning idea to create cloth shoes with rubber soles.

And it really was a winning idea, as Superga sold 13 million pairs of shoes in Italy in 1956. These shoes are still very well liked nowadays, and they are made of cotton, rubber and biodegradable alluminium button holes.

The model that I have chosen to wear is white and they are platforms.
