Lace Dress and Stan Smith

For those of you who thought that they had now become definitively out of production, and for those who have never, ever believed that, Adidas’ Stan Smiths have made it back in fashion and they have done so in a terrific way, with more style than ever.

Those that we now know to be as Stan Smiths were created in 1964, in honour of the French tennist Robert Haillet, a year after the same shoes were worn by the American tennist Stan Smith. With him, they became legendary. Their fabric was innovative. The fact that they were made of leather and not out of cloth, as tennis shoes of the time were, they did not have three stripes identifying the Adidas logo, but they had holes that simulated it. What colour were they? White of-course. Because that was the dress code that tennists had to respect at the time.

As time passed, Stan Smiths were offered in various colours and variations, to commemorate the tennis myth to whom they are dedicated. Stan Smith’s silhouette was drawn on the tab, and the Adidas clover appeared on the heel.
They are back now, after having been off the market for a few years. Your sporty looks could never be so chich without these shoes, which made history, but lend themselves to be re-used in future as well.
I like the classic ones, in honour of the black and green of the first model. You could pair them with a lace dress and a leather back pack.
